Why do my feet hurt and how do I make it stop?

I've never had an injury and I haven't sprained it or anything like that. It's just that sometimes when I walk (not run) for maybe just a mile, there's a sharp sting under my foot right where the arch is. It happens randomly though and goes away just as randomly.

I thought it might be a problem with my shoe, but I've tried different types and it still hurts. I don't think insoles would help much either since I don't have a high arch.

Anyone know what's wrong and what I can do?

You poor soul, you have plantar fasceitis, it took over a year for me to recover. Please stop running (ride a bike), do lots of calf stretches(my fave is stand on a step on the balls of your feet and drop your heels when the calf muscle releases bend your knees slightly for more stretch ten times a day), ice is nice, and go to a medical supply store and get the softest insoles you can find. I would stay away from steroid injections and do alot of research before you plunk down hundreds of $$ for orthotics. I have two useless pairs (one that caused knee pain to start). Now I am doing 7 km every second day with only pronation running shoes and soft insoles and feel great.

Get good shoes at a dedicated running store with knowledgeable staff, it's worth the money.
Reply:Sounds like you are having problems with your arch. You need better arch support, but you should go see a podiatrist. He can accurately diagnose your problem.
Reply:you may have have a stress fracture or plantar faciitis. if you have either, the treatment will be basically the same: ice and rest. you should go to a doctor though to check this out. also inserts for your shoes may help.
Reply:you should talk to your doctor about it. you may not have injured it that you know of but if the arch is not properly supported then the tendons and what not in your foot could get little tears in them that are painful.
