Should I get a second opinion?

Ever since my daughter learned to walk, her feet turn inward (I guess you'd call it pigeon toed) and her left foot has always been more noticeable than the right. Last year, we took her to a well known orthopedic doctor that everyone thinks very highly of and he said that there is really nothing that can be done until her bones are fully grown at around age 11 or 12 and if it bothers her at that time, they can do surgery to correct it. He said that if you do surgery before then, the bones can decide to start growing the opposite way anyhow. So, they only do surgery on small kids if the situation is so severe that it interferes with everyday life. He claims that corrective shoes and insoles have been proven to make it worse. So, basically the only thing to do is wait it out and he also said that it will get worse before it gets better. Well, he was right about that because now, at age 27 months, her left foot is definitely worse than it was. Should I get it looked at by someone else?

Should I get a second opinion?
My niece had the same thing and doctor told her the same thing you were told. She is fine. It doesn't hurt to get a second opinion.
Reply:I would definately get a second opinion. Make sure the Orthopedic surgeon has a specialty in Pediatrics.
Reply:it's always a good idea to get a second opinion
Reply:can't hurt
Reply:I would get a second opinion. Do you have a good childrens hospital in your area? They might be a real good resource.
Reply:My mother told me when I was young my feet did something of the similar sort. She was told to have me wear high top shoes. I assume it works because I dont walk like that anymore and Ive been walking for over 21 years. Just an idea.
Reply:Get a second opinion...my niece is 2 and has braces for that...if I am right that they are the same thing. You need to follow your intuition. This is YOUR child were talking about. Could you imagine being 11 or 12 and going through this and what their peers will say? Get the second opinion. Good luck.
Reply:There's nothing wrong with getting a second or third opinion, it's what you're feel led to doing. It would be disturbing for any parent coming from a doctor, that nothing can be done to correct this situation at this time in her young age. I'm sure you can get better opinions from a few more well recommended doctors, and perhaps be pleased with their advice.
Reply:Yes, you should get an opinion from another doctor.

It is important that the doctor who looks at her specializes in children first. Try a new pediatrician.
Reply:This is your daughter and her well-being! I would get as many opinions as there are doctors in your area... you can't just trust one! Then when you hear that 10+ doctors think the same way, then it may be the best course, but I would def. get more opinions before too long!
Reply:Definitely get a second opinion!!
Reply:yes I would, mothers have instict and I think that you dont like the answer he gave get another one..Until you feel at ease with what the doctor says..
Reply:When I was at that age my feet were inwards too. A doctor back home told my mom to take me to the beach and have me walk on the beggining of the water line (where the waves hit). The doctor told my mom that the salted beach water will straighten her (my ) feet. And that's what my mom did for 2 weeks straight she took her vacation and had me walk at the beach where the beach water hit my feet. My mom said that , that was the reason i have straight feet now.

I hope it will work on your daughter as well and it never hurts to get more than one opinion from a doctor. Good Luck
