What would be best for my flat feet?

So I'm starting this workout program that involves a lot of street running. I have flat feet and was recommended running shoes that come with extra stability and arch support. I currently use some Nikes that are only cushioned, but I have Superfeet arch support insoles that have made a real difference (no more shin splints). Should I try the stability running shoe or stick with what is already working?

What would be best for my flat feet?
Stick with what you have if you have no other pain. Run all you want :)
Reply:I have flat feet too and was given arch support inserts for my shoes which helped a lot. My podiatrist recommended New Balance because they make a shoe especially for people like us. I can't remember what the shoe is called but you can find it on their website I'm sure or by asking a shoe sales person. He seemed to think I would get the optimal support by using the inserts plus wearing the NB shoes for flat footed people.
Reply:Honestly I don't recommend excessive running if your flat footed, it puts allot of stress in your knees. Specially slow paced running. Stick with the ones you have nothing else will make a significant difference, good luck!
Reply:stick with what your working with.

but try and work out ur arch

you can do this by standing on rug or grass(somewhere not smooth) barefoot and squeezing your toes. like try and bring your toes towards your heel.

like if it was your hand on a stress ball. squeezing in.

with your feet pull on the rug or whatever.

it may hurt at first but it helps a lot. you may want to look inot orthodics (i think thats how its spelled) or footlevers so u can wear with all your shoes.

you can see a chiropracter about those.
Reply:You can run as much as you want with flat feet. Just make sure you have good, comfortable arch support.

I have size 15 flat as pancake feet. I have been running marathons since 1999. I completed a marathon in all 50 states, more than 16 marathons a year and have run 117 marathons. I ran 100 miles this past weekend in the Texas Independence Relay.

If you have inserts that work that is great. I used to tape foam to the arches on the inserts that came with my running shoes. I have tried custom orthotics that didn't really work that well. I have used Sole inserts for the last 4 years with excellent results. http://www2.yoursole.com/ They resolved a serious plantar fasciitis problem.

If you aren't feeling any pain then you have found something that works for you. Don't make any changes until your shoes wear out or you start hurting.

Then definitely buy a good pair of running shoes appropriate to your feet. Go to a good running store like Fleet Feet, Lukes, Phidipedes, etc and they should have runners who can help you find a good fitting pair of shoes. (Avoid shoe stores located in shopping malls they don't know much about running and their selection is very limited).

Good luck and stick with it.
