Know a way to keep feet from hurting during long work days?

Basically, the title asks it all. I work nine hour days in a fast food restaurant trying to save up enough money for college... after a few days of rest, I can usually make it to 2 hours before I have to leave before they start hurting some... but last week I worked 5 days in a row and on the third day through, my feet were aching after 3 hours of work.. by the end of the day, I hurt so bad I could have cried. When I came home and took off my shoes, it killed me just to walk across my livingroom until my feet had rested for literally hours and hours. So, does anyone know how I can keep my feet from hurting?? Any shoes that would reduce the pain? Anything at all would be helpful. I bought some gel insoles for my current shoes but it didn't help a whole lot...

Please and thank you to anyone that has advice.

proper fitting comfortable shoes should help you solve your problem. change your shoes right now. buy a new pair of shoes and test them before buying by walking around. make sure you are very comfortable. buy great quality shoes, don't be a cheapskate when it comes to shoes because comfy shoes usually cost more, but there are some exemptions, again, walk around and always try your shoes on before buying. take your time and don't rush shoe buying. don't also soak your feet right after work as this will make it worse and you will get varicose veins. rest your feet for an hour or so before soaking them to avoid veins showing up.
Reply:try going to myfootshop.com for some advice. they have great articles related to foot pain and some OTC products that should help you out quite a bit. use the sources as direct link to site. good luck!
Reply:You need to see a podiatrist to determine what if any physical problem may exist. They may suggest orthotics, either soft or hard, that fit into your shoe to give you more support as needed. Some of the best shoes for people who are on their feet all day are labelled with "orthotic ready" or have the APA - American Podiatric Assn.-- seal on them. Also, CROCs makes a great shoe that has extra cushioning. Try remeasuring your feet also to see if they have grown -- you may be surprised to find out that your feet are bigger or wider so you need new shoes. Also, try to elevate your feet on your breaks to decrease swelling.
Reply:I work in a pharmacy for 7 hour shifts. My feet used to hurt the same as yours for the first few months I worked there. Th eonly thing that has helped is time. I tried different shoes, different insoles, and nothing helps. My feet still get worse when I have PMS. I just come home and take my shoes off and usually lay down on the couch and put my feet up.

I wish there was more I could say, but it's been 3 years and I either have built up a tolerance so I don't notice it as much or the pain has diminished. I know I still occasionally comment on it at work, but it's not as bas as it first was.
Reply:Make sure that you have shoes that fit properly. It's worth the money for a good pair. Also, take a second pair of shoes to work with you. Try to change into the other shoes every two hours. That should help.
